There’s no doubt about it, all weddings are romantic whether they’re planned years in advance or within a few short months.
There’s all sorts of reasons as to why you might plan your wedding at short notice and if 2017 is the year you are getting married and there’s still lots to do, keep calm and more importantly make sure you and your other half stick together! Here’s a few handy tips to help you through.
What are the essentials?
Your budget, guest list and theme should be the first decisions you make: everything else can fall into place around them. Don’t forget that if you’re planning a wedding at short notice, then you might have fewer guests able to attend. It’s worth bearing in mind the the more you invite, the more it’ll cost. Figure these out early on, and don’t be afraid to ask for help.
Commit.
Remember that things can crop up whether you’re planning your wedding three months in advance or three years in advance! Bear in mind that suppliers, venues, photographers, videographers, make-up artists etc. can book up pretty early on. That’s not to say they can’t help – just make sure you are proactive in getting in touch.
Book what’s important to you first.
If it’s the venue that’s going to be the most important factor for your wedding day, book that first. Be flexible with everything else.
Lists.
Make lists. Share them. Check off what’s done. Make new lists! There’s lots to be thinking about – writing everything down will decrease your chances of forgetting something.
Save time where you can.
When your time is limited it makes sense to cut out anything that isn’t necessary and takes time to complete. You won’t have time to send out ‘save the date’ cards so why not send an email or create a Facebook group instead and invest the saved time (and money) in something else.
Get invitations out quickly.
For the best chance of your guests being able to attend, get your invites out as early as possible. It might be that this doesn’t leave time to get custom designed invitations, however there are many pre-printed options available that are of high quality. We recommend Frog and Pencil!
RSVPs.
This can be a nightmare when planning a wedding at short notice. Your caterer, venue, etc. are all going to want to know final numbers in advance. Get on top of this by calling, texting, and emailing until you have all the replies!
Bridal Party.
Suggest a colour and a style to your bridesmaids rather than spending valuable time hunting for matching dresses. Chaps can hire their suits and wear a matching tie to coordinate.
The Finishing Touches.
Save time by hiring your props, decorations and extras. Ask your supplier if they can style your venue for you to save extra time! Listen to their suggestions – they might have additional items you hadn’t thought of (here at Vintage Partyware, we’re always adding a ring cushion or a cake slice to orders at the last minute!).
Breathe!
Keep calm and get married. Think of the positives… you’re going to be a married couple very soon!
Planning a wedding at short notice is do-able. Just prepare yourselves, be decisive, and ensure any ‘must haves’ are organised first. Good luck!
